January 2025 review Arctic Sea Tours - Whale Watching & Refurbishments

Written by Freyr Antonsson | Dec 22, 2025 1:25:42 PM

As the Arctic winter embraced North Iceland, January turned out to be an unforgettable start to 2025 for both our guests and crew here at Arctic Sea Tours.

🐋 Whale Watching Success: 19 Tours – 100% Sightings

We operated 19 whale watching tours throughout the month, and we’re proud to report humpback whale sightings on every single trip. These gentle giants graced us with incredible surface activity, fluke in the air dives, and peaceful moments under the golden Arctic skies.

Our team captured some stunning images – from dramatic whale flukes against snow-covered mountains to tranquil scenes of the fjord lit by the soft winter sun. Winter whale watching in Dalvík offers a peaceful and personal experience, far from the summer crowds.

🛠 Behind the Scenes: Major Refurbishment of Máni

While our tours continued, our crew was also hard at work onshore. We began a full-scale refurbishment of our largest boat, Máni – an important investment in both guest comfort and operational sustainability.

Here’s what we upgraded winter 2025 and started in January:

⚙️ New engine – for better fuel efficiency and lower emissions

🔌 Upgraded electrical system – increasing reliability and onboard safety

🚢 New propeller – improving maneuverability and performance

💺 New seating – more comfort and better views for all guests

🧼 New toilet facilities – cleaner and more spacious

🔭 Enhanced viewing platform – for better whale observation and photography opportunities

Máni was ready in June, and loved to welcome guests aboard this upgraded vessel.

📍 Why Winter Whale Watching is Special

Winter in North Iceland may be cold, but it offers something rare and magical. Calm fjords, quiet surroundings, and unforgettable light conditions make every tour unique. It’s the perfect time for those who want to experience Iceland’s nature at its most raw and peaceful.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in January. Whether you were on board or following us from afar, we’re excited for what’s ahead.

Stay tuned for our February update and follow us on social media for daily sightings and photos from the fjord!
