February brought more incredible moments in Eyjafjordur as our whale watching season continued strong in Dalvík North Iceland. We operated from Dalvik, Hjalteyri and Akureyri using the harbors in Eyjafjordur to maximize the sighting success for our guests.
🐋 Whale Sightings: 22 Tours, 21 Successful
We operated 22 tours throughout February, with humpback whales spotted on 21 of them – a 95% success rate, which is outstanding for arctic winter whale watching adventures. These majestic creatures were especially active this month, often feeding near the surface, giving our guests fantastic views and unforgettable photo opportunities.
Great fluke photos were taken in February, with whales lifting their tails against the dramatic winter backdrop of the Arctic skies and snow-covered mountains.
The only trip without a sighting was on February 24th, a reminder that nature is unpredictable – but even then, the fjord’s beauty still offered a special experience.
🔧 Máni Refurbishment Progress
Behind the scenes, work continued on refurbishing our flagship vessel, Máni. In February, we made strong progress on:
• ⚙️ Getting the engine room ready with new oil tanks for the new engine
• 🔌 Starting electrical rewiring,
• 🚢 Setting up and ordering the new propeller system
• 💺 Preparing for installation of new guest seating
• 🔭 Finalizing the redesign of the viewing platform
These upgrades are part of our commitment to providing the best possible experience for our guests and reducing environmental impact through efficiency and modern systems.
❄️ Arctic Beauty in February
February often brings good conditions sailing from Dalvik for whale watching adventures in North Iceland. The light is returning, seas are calm, and the humpback whales are actively feeding in the fjord. Combined with smaller group sizes and the peaceful winter Eyjafjordur landscape, it’s one of the most magical times to visit.
